The match at Everest, commenced at 10: 00 hours with the Select Under-17 being invited by Berbice to bat first. Berbice opening fast bowlers of Javid Karim and Sylus Tyndal made early inroads into the National Select Under-17 batting line up, sending a strong message to the Select Under-17. Javid Karim who bowled the second over of the match, induced a false stroke from Orlando Jailall with his first delivery to have him caught at mid-on in an attempt to pull a short delivery. The score then read 1 for 1.

Tyndall then got into the action, when he removed Kevin Christian from a well-directed bouncer, which had the batsman fending uncontrollably to be caught at forward short leg, to leave the National Select Under-17 in a spot of bother on 3 for 2. Then with the score on 36, Keith Simpson had Rajendra Singh caught at mid-off by Tyndal for 8. Lance Roberts was then LBW off the bowling of Keith Simpson for 2, with the score 57 for 6. This slump by the Berbice batsmen, appeared to be unexpectedly putting the National Select Under-17 team in the drivers’ seat. However, Steve Deonarine and Sylus Tyndal rallied the aggregate score to 84, before Tyndall was caught by Christian off the bowling of Nedd for 16. Junior Sinclair then trapped Karan Arjpaul for duck, and Ashmead Nedd then sent back number eleven batsman Daniel Samaroo LBW without scoring, to bowl out Berbice for the comparative score of 86. With play having been suspended for 20 minutes after the tea break, due to a short burst of rain, it therefore meant that the adjusted close of play would be 17 20 hours.

With the Select Under-17 needing to bat just 25 minutes to complete the first day’s play, they disappointingly found batting conditions challenging, as fading light and some penetrative bowling got the better of them, they lost batsmen Kevin Sinclair and Kelvin Umroa cheaply, to leave The National Select Under-17 on 5 for 2 when play was terminated. Keith Simpson has so far taken both wickets.
