2017 GCB/HIH Under 19 Inter County 3 days tournament – round three, day two

As play of the Guyana Cricket Board/Hand in hand Under 19 Inter County 3 days tournament continues on the third and final round, we continue to see Demerara and Berbice battling it out to finish on top on the table and the Guyana Select Under 17 taking on Essequibo.
Over at Police grounds on day two of the third and final round Select Under 17 was all out for 227 twenty minutes before lunch, with Kevlon Anderson and Reyaz Khan top scoring with 101 and 33 runs respectively, while Pradesh Ballkishun 24 and Nigel Deosaran 22 also added to the total.
Bowling for Essequibo, Mahendra Persaud made 3 for 34, Joel Fortune 3 for 42 and Lesley Allen 2 for 27.

 
In reply, Essequibo was 9 without loss at lunch. However, despite batting the remaining overs in the day’s play, they were only able to attain 100 runs for the loss of 9 wickets after 70 overs. Stephan Campbell top scored with 34, while Mahendra Persaud contributed 21 runs to the total. Ashmead Nedd has bowled 33 overs and taken 4 for 29, and Kevlon Anderson 3 for 5 runs, Pradesh Balkishun and Nigel Deodat also picked up one wicket each.

 

 

Over at Everest, Berbice commencing the second day’s play on 19 for 1 edged their way to 166 all out. Kevin Sinclair was defiant with a resistant 97, as nine wickets tumbled around him. Number 11 batsman, Karan Arjpaul supported Sinclair to give Berbice a tenth wicket partnership of 25. Stylus Tyndal batting at number 9, slammed 27 with 3 sixes and 1 four.

 

 

Bowling for Demerara, Keshram Seyhodan grabbed 6 for 67 and Bhaskar Yadram took 3 for 16. Demerara gained a first innings lead of 24 runs.

 

 

Demerara in their second innings set out to enhance their ceased advantage when Gavin Boodwah and Ramnarine Chaturia took the score from 23 for 1 to 49 for 2 wickets.

 

 

From here, Arjpaul applied even more pressure on the Demerara batsmen, sending them crashing from 49 for 2 to 74 for 5, before Ronaldo Ali Mohamed and Roche Loooknauth attempted to repair the damage, slowing building the score to 90 before Arjpaul in induced a false stroke from national youth player Ronaldo Ali Mohamed, to have him caught and bowl for a fighting 16.
Arjpaul continued his excellent bowling, mesmerizing the Berbice batsmen to finish the day with magical figures of 9 for 22 off 21 overs. Demerara end on 95 for 9 from 48 overs.

 

 

Play continues tomorrow, Thursday 15th June 2017 from 10 00 hours at both venues. At Police, the National Select Under-17 will attempt to enforce their dominance over Essequibo, while at Everest a keen battle for championship honors will continue.
