An uncertain, nerve rending but exciting climate, permeated the National Stadium-Providence, as the curtains opened on the commencement of the Finals of the Guyana Cricket Board and Hand In Hand Mutual Fire Insurance Company Limited Under-19 Inter County One Day 50 overs Tournament.
During the pre-match training activities National Select Under-17 appeared keen on attempting to create an unlikely upset over defending champions Demerara. However, Demerara disseminated high levels of confidence, as they remained intent on maintaining their dominance throughout the competition.
The match, saw Demerara winning the toss, and inviting the National Select Under-17 Team to take first strike. Alex Algoo and Sachin Singh, took the score to 20 before Bhaskar Yadram induced a false stroke from Algoo to have him caught and bowled for 14. Select Under-17 then found themselves in further trouble when on 38 they lost their second wicket, that of Junior Sinclair caught by Sagar Hetramani off the bowling of Riche Looknauth for 8. Looknauth then bowled Sachin Singh for 24, to send the Select Under-17 reeling at 54 for 3. With the score on 65, Looknauth deceived Alphius Bookie with a well tossed delivery, to have him stumped by Joshua Persuad for 1.
Sagar Hetramani then got into the action, dismissing Kevin Christian caught by Ramnarine Chatura, to leave the score 86 for 5. Bhaskar Yadram then returned to have Ashmead Nedd caught by wicket keeper Joshua Persaud for 7, to make the score 105 for 6. The score soon became 113 for 7, when Yadram had Pradesh Balkishun caught and bowl. Ronaldo Ali Mohamed then bowled Gevon Schultz, to sink the Select Under-17 even further at 120 for 8. Ali Mohamed then bowl Kevlon Anderson to make the score 127 for 9, before Yadram had Nigel Deodat caught wicket keeper Joshua Persuad, to wrap up the National Select Under-19 innings for 130 off 48.4 overs.
In reply, Demerara started cautiously reaching 35 in the tenth over, before Raymond Perez on 13, sought to gather quick runs off Gevon Schults and ended up, holding out to Lance Roberts running in from long off. With the batsmen having crossed, Schults then sent back Bhaskar Yadram the very next delivery, caught behind by Kevin Christian, to put Demerara in a spot of bother at 35 for 2 in pursuit of 131 for victory. Ashmead Nedd then prompted a false stroke from Garvin Boodwah to have him caught behind by Christian for 18. Joshua Persaud and Ronaldo Ali Mohamed came together and took the score to 77 before Joshua Persaud was comprehensively bowled by Ashmead Nedd for 8. Ramnarine Chatura then joined Ronaldo Ali Mohamed and together they brought Demerara to victory, reaching 132 for 4. Ronaldo Ali Mohamed made an unbeaten 53, bringing up victory with a cover drive for 4. Ramnarine Chatura was not out on 16.
Bowling for the National Select Under-17 Ashmead Nedd grabbed 2 for 20 and Gevon Schultz 2 for 31. Demerara won by 6 wickets.
