2017 GCB/JAGUARS 3-DAY LEAGUE –Round 4 Day 2

With play resuming on day two of round four in the GCB/Jaguars 3-Day League, play continued at four locations across the country, namely Bush Lot community ground in West Berbice; Young Warriors ground in Cumberland, Berbice; Port Mourant Community Centre on the Corentyne of Berbice; and Tuschen ground on the West Coast of Demerara.

At Bush lot ground in West Berbice, West Berbice resuming on their overnight score of 179 for 9 in reply to East Coast Demerara’s first innings score of 143 all out, was only able to add eight runs to their overnight score, folding for 187 off 61.4, to set up a slim overall first innings lead of 44.

East Coast Demerara in their second innings batted with more purpose and determination, to compile a massive 321 all out off of 81.2 overs. Their superb second innings’ batting effort took away the match advantage from West Berbice, as they set West Berbice a competitive score of 278 for victory. West Berbice in their second innings reply, reached 27 without loss when play ended.

Over at the Young Warriors ground in Cumberland, Berbice, Upper Demerara/East Bank resuming on their overnight score of 132 for 8, was dismissed for 139.
Ronaldo AliMohamed and Steven Jacobs made 32 and 31 respectively. Bowling for Lower Corentyne, Kasim Khan grabbed 4 for 49 and Veerasammy Permaul 3 for 39.

 

Lower Corentyne with a first innings lead of 9 runs, executed their batting prowess much better in the second innings, making 279 before being all out. Openers Alex Algoo made 36 and Waheid Edwards 37, featured in a first wicket partnership of 70. Kevlon Anderson supported well with a composed 72. But it was Devon Clements’ brilliant batting performance of 97 that gave Lower Corentyne a winning edge, as they amass 279, giving Lower Corentyne an overall lead of 288. Bowling for Upper Demerara/ East Bank Ershaad Ali took 5 for 49 and Keon Morris 3 for 36.

 

Upper Demerara/East Bank needing 289 to win, found batting difficult in their second innings and they were struggling on 43 for 5 at the close of play on the second day. Mark Rhobe is on 13 not out, while Rutherford is unbeaten on 12. Fast bowler Nial Smith has so far taken all five wickets to have fallen, to end the day’s play with 5 for 19.

 

At Port Mourant, on the Corentyne of Berbice, Upper Corentyne push their overnight score from 267 to 371 all out off 119.3 overs. Bowling for West Demerara, Keshram Seyhodan took 4 for 78, Mahendra Dhanpaul 2 for 40, while Romario Shepherd, Richie Looknauth and Malcolm Hubbard each took a wicket.

West Demerara in reply was dismissed for 133. Raymon Reifer 56 and Akshaya Persaud 34. Bowling for Upper Corentyne, Clinton Pestano took 4 for 31, David Latchman 3 for 31, Shawn Pereira 2 for 19, while Kevin Sinclair was the other wicket taker. With a lead of 184, Upper Corentyne enforced the follow on, with West Demerara managing to reach 59 for 1 after 26 overs, when the second day’s play ended.

 

Over at Tuschen on West Coast Demerara, Georgetown, resuming on their overnight score of 13 without loss, managed to post 245 all out by tea, to give them an overall lead of 192.Leon Johnson made a well grafted 91, Christopher Barnwell stroked a watchful 48, while Steven Sankar and Dexter Solomon supported with 25 and 23 respectively. Bowling for Essequibo, Ricardo Adams and Akini Adams took 3 wickets each, while Keemo Paul picked up 2 wickets.

 

Essequibo needing 193 for victory with 34 overs remaining in the day’s play, were in early trouble as Christopher Barnwell ripped through the top order batting by claiming four wickets. However, a brilliant display of batsmanship by Ricardo Adams’ 95 saw Essequibo in reach of their victory target of 193, as they closed the second day’s play on 155 for 5. Mark Williams supported well an unbeaten 34. Bowling for Georgetown, Christopher Barnwell has so far taken 4 for 37.

The third and final day of round four, in the GCB/ Jaguars 3 Days League continues tomorrow Sunday 24th September, with play at the Bush Lot, Port Mourant, Young Warriors and Tuschen grounds.

 

Play at all venues will commence from 09:30 hours.
