2017 GCB/Jaguars 3-Day League – Upper Corentyne crushes Georgetown

As the top order of the Georgetown’s batting line up came off to a shaky start in the second innings, middle order batsman, Dexter Solomon whipped up a solid 77 from 133 balls and Captain Paul Wintz stood his ground mastering an impressive 92 off 144 which landed Georgetown to 277 all out after 69.3 overs. Bowling for Upper Corentyne on day two of the tournament, Clinton Pestano picked up 5 wickets for 48 runs and Eon Hooper grabbed 4 for 22, while Demitri Cameron took a wicket as well. Upper Corentyne batting in their 2nd innings totaled 116 for 5 off 23.3 overs with Rajiv Ivan scoring 23 off 35; Clinton Pestano top scoring with 57 off 65 balls.
Upper Corentyne defeated Georgetown by 5 wickets, to take an impressive jump on the points table moving form 58 point to 78.7 giving themselves a strong chance of gaining second place.

Lower Corentyne commenced their 1st innings against West Berbice over at Bush Lot, and summed up 74 runs after the loss of 8 wickets in 21.4 overs. Waheed Edwards scored 20 off 25, and Kevlon Anderson 24 from 83 balls. Bowling for West Berbice, Gudakesh Motie bowled exceptionally well collecting 5 brilliant wickets for just 8 runs; Krishandat Ramoo 2 for 22 and Stephen Harris 1 for 27. After declaration, West Berbice set out to bat accumulating 69 for 1 off 18.3 overs. Opening bastman Raphael Estriado put up 42 runs before stumps. Lower Corentyne would need to force an outright victory over West Berbice in order to maintain their second place position which they held at the end of the sixth round.

East Coast continued their innings over at Everest totaling 298 all out. Ameer Khan top scoring with 104 while Kamesh Yadram fell 1 run short of his century with 99, Bashkar Yadram also contributed 38 runs to the score board. Bowling for East Bank, Sage Hathiramen and Darshan Persaud collect 3 wickets for 44 and 73 runs separately; Stephon Brown 2 for 15. East Bank in reply scored 184 for 9 in their innings with Ronaldo Ali Mohamed 116 not out. Bowling for East Coast Bhaskar Yadram so far has collected 3 wickets, Ameer Khan 2 wickets and Sahadeo RamKhelawan 2 wickets thus far. East Bank trailing by 114 runs, with a day remaining.

In the fourth game of the day between Essequibo and West Demerara, the first position holders, Essequibo whipped up 264 all out with Shivnarine Chanderpaul contributing an astonishing 119, Anthony Adams 37 and Chaitram Persaud with 40. West Demerara in their 1st innings is on 81 for 5 and Chaitram Persaud has collected 3 wickets thus far.

With Upper Corentyne defeating Georgetown thus far, on Sunday 15th October, 2017 spectators can look forward to a thrilling finish of the seventh round and the completion of the 2017 GCB/Jaguars 3-Day league; also the prize giving ceremony and crowning of champions at the end of the day’s play. Matches commence from 09 30 a.m.
