Bayrock Cricket Club gets gear from GCB

The Bauxite Mining Town of Linden once again benefited from the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) developmental outreach programme when GCB President Drubahadur donated a complete set of gear to the Bayrock Cricket Club on Sunday last.

The donation was made after the GCB head witnessed the Upper Demerara Cricket Committee final between Bayrock Cricket Club and Waruni Mission Cricket Club. Drubahadur’s visit was a follow up to the outreach programme the GCB made in August this year where the Board contributed $250,000 each to the Bayrock club and the Regional Authority, along with six bats and five boxes of balls.

Speaking to club representatives and young players, Drubahadur said he was happy to see youths involved in cricket in Linden. He urged the cricketers to make good use of the gear and take care of them. He further stated that as the finances of the Board improve, Lindeners will get more support.

The GCB boss congratulated Lancelot Easton, Mortimer Denny and others for the wonderful work they are doing in the Upper Demerara area and pledged his personal commitment to the development of the game.

Speaking on behalf of Bayrock and the Committee, Easton thanked the GCB for again helping the youth of the region and promised to ensure the cricket equipment is well utilised and kept safely for use not only by Bayrock but other teams in the area as well.

The GCB started a countrywide outreach programme this year to aid clubs across the country in the development of cricket. So far, they have reached Berbice, Essequibo, Linden and other areas on the East Bank of Demerara.
