GCB Launches its fourth edition of ‘The Guyana Cricketer’ magazine

The Guyana Cricket Board launched its first ‘The Guyana Cricketer’ magazine on the 28th February to coincide with its 70th anniversary in 2014. The launch took place at the Georgetown Cricket Club pavilion. This year the GCB launches its fourth edition of the magazine as it celebrates its 75th anniversary.
The magazine features a Foreward from Whycliffe ‘Dave’ Cameron, President of the West Indies Cricket Board. In this Foreward, Cameron begins by postulating that the Guyana Cricket Board continues to play a significant role in the development and growth of West Indies Cricket. This commendation is highly appreciated, as the GCB continues to examine ways in providing the Guyanese cricketers with the necessary structures that will aid in the players professional career. As you may be aware, the Guyana PCL contracted players as well as the Academy Players, all train 4 days per week, in a system year to assist in the development of their individual and team needs.

 

In fact, when one examines the PCL franchise approaches to cricket development by involved territories in the West Indies, it is obvious that Guyana is leading the way in terms of professionalism to organization, implementation of proposed plan, training and performance. The latter – performance, needing no explanation, with Guyana having won all three (3) WICB Regional 4 Day Professional Cricket Leagues, to have been played so far. As such, Mr. Cameron’s statement is accepted and well deserved.
The magazine also features an appreciative message from the Minister of Business with responsibility for Tourism, Hon. Dominic Gaskin. This message, gives the GCB most pleasure, since it is an indication of the government’s willingness to commit to the promotion of cricket, not just as a sport, but as a marketing tool for Guyana’s tourism market – a positive step for the imagine of cricket in Guyana.
Further, the magazine captures the Hon. Ms. Nicolette Henry’s message on behalf the Ministry Of Education. In her message, Ms. Henry recognizes the development strides that the GCB is making in collaboration with its stakeholders, such as sponsors. The GCB notes, that the Ministry Of Education has been one of its integral stakeholders, and is highly grateful for their continuous support and cooperation. The GCB’s President Message and Foreward are also featured.

 

In addition, the GCB’s Honorary Secretary’s report highlights the achievement of the GCB’s national teams, their development programs (competitions and training) – inclusive of the coaches’ development programs where four Guyanese participated and were successful at the WICB/ECB Level 3 Coaching Course, the highest level currently being offered in the West Indies. The report also gives mention to the achievement of the GCB and Secretary at the NSC Award ceremony held in May 2016.

In short, “The Guyana Cricketer” magazine articulates the 2016 year of activities of both GCB arranged domestic and WICB regional tournaments, features the inputs of key personnel in the stakeholders’ realm and provides rich insight to other integral cricket related matters. The magazine is free and as usual the GCB stakeholders, cricket enthusiasts and other interested individuals are ear marked to be the recipients.
