GCB presents cricket kits to coaches conducting National Secondary School Cricket League

The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) today presented a number of cricket kits to its coaches who have been assigned to the various Zones and Districts across the country to ensure the effective conduct of the GCB National Secondary School Cricket League sponsored by Banks DIH and Digicel.

National Secondary School Cricket League, Anthony D’Andrade, handed over the kits at the GCB Secretariat. D’Andrade who was hired to coordinate and conduct this League among other duties, urged the coaches to be responsible and make good use of the gears, adding that it is their job to see that the kits are properly taken care of. D’Andrade is a former national youth cricketer out of Berbice. He was also a secondary school teacher. As such, the GCB believes that he is suited to manage such an important undertaking.

TDO, Colin Stuart, noted that cricket gears are costly so the Board is making sure that the lack of them does not hinder students from going out in the field and compete. The aim of this League is to identify young talents for the future; hence, there is a need for as many youths to participate as possible.

The Zones in the League are Corentyne, New Amsterdam/Canje, West Berbice, Mahaica/Mahaicony, East Coast, North Georgetwon, South Georgetown, East Georgetown, East Bank Demerara, HighWay, Upper Demerara, West Coast Demerara, West Bank Demerara, East Bank Demerara, Wakenaam, Leguan, Bartica, North Essequibo Coast, South Essequibo Coast and Central Essequibo Coast.

The League was launched on Friday, October 16, 2015 at the Everest Cricket Club ground and there were three matches as its commemoration. It will continue on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 in the West Berbice District, then in Georgetown on Wednesday, October 21, 2015.
