GCB/BANK DIH/DIGICEL NSSCL… Queen’s College and St John’s College book semi-final place

Queen’s College and St John’s College booked their place in the semi-final of the North Georgetown zone with easy victories over Marian Academy and Bishop’s High respectively in the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) National Secondary School Cricket League (NSSCL) sponsored by Bank’s DIH Ltd’s Coco Cola Rainforest Water along with Digicel.

Playing at the Everest Cricket club ground, Queen’s College hammered Marian Academy by 10 wickets. Batting first, Marian Academy was dismissed for a shocking 38 runs in 12.1 overs as the Queen’s College bowlers took advantage of winning the toss on a damp pitch. Queen’s College in reply got to 39 without losing a wicket as they completed their chase in 11 overs.

At DCC, Bishop’s High went down to St John’s College by 34 runs in a low scoring affair. Batting first, St John’s College was limited to 111 all out in 23 overs as only Odida Douglas made a significant contribution with 21. Bowling for Bishop’s High, Lakeram Narine had impressive figures of 4/23 off 6 overs while Daniel Singh had 3/17 and Campton Seepersaud 2/26.

In reply, Bishop’s High could only get to 77 when they were dismissed in the 28th over. Leading the bowling for St John’s College was Christopher Campbell who had a 4 wicket haul while conceding just 11 runs in his 6 over spell.

Meanwhile, Central High School registered a crushing victory over Freeburg Secondary at the Everest Cricket Club ground. Central High School was inserted to bat and amassed 222/6 in 25 overs. They were led by Lionel Holder who top scored with an attractive 55 while Reaz Ally supported well with a composed 54. Bowling for Freeburg Secondary, Clinton Redmon was the pick of the bowlers with 3/32. Junior Simon also took 2/14.

In reply, Freeburg was blown away for just 53 in 13.2 overs. Omar Harry led the rout with 3/3 along with Deonarine Nwon who had 2/10 and Lionel Holder took 2/2.

On Thursday, October 19 2015, action continues in the North Georgetown Zone. St John’s College will battle Queen’s at DCC ground while Charlestown Secondary will play Central High School at Thirst Park ground.
