Tutorial High School were crowned East Georgetown zone champions when they defeated defending East Georgetown champions St Joseph’s High yesterday at Bourda as the 2016 edition of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) National Secondary School Cricket League (NSSCL) continued.

Playing at Bourda, Tutorial won the toss and asked St Joseph High to take first strike. St Joseph then went on to score 144/9 in their 30 overs with Asif Daniels top scoring with 47 off 63 balls. He struck five fours during his innings as he held his team’s innings together. Ameer Singh chipped in with 25 off 32 balls as the defending East Georgetown zone champions put up a respectable total. Bowling for Tutorial, Zion Gray took 2/27 and Joel Spooner took 2/29.

In reply, the Tutorial batsmen held their nerves to complete the chase. Number three batsman Devon Allen led the way with a responsible knock of 37 while Osapho Green was the other main scorer with 29 as the two batsmen were instrumental in their team crossing the line even though they lost seven wickets in the process. The target was achieved with 7.3 overs to spare.

At DCC, Tucville registered 112 all out in 9.2 overs. Goddfrey Phillips smashed 47 with five fours as he was the main scorer for Tucville. Akeemo Marques had terrific figures of 7/32 while Akeem Williams took 2/36.

Lodge in reply batted smartly to get to their target of 113/6 in 21.2 overs. Turston Gordon top score with 35 while Akeem Williams returned with the bat to score 32 to lead their team to victory. Bowling for Tucville, Romeo Brown had 2/22. Lodge Secondary will now face Charlestown in the South Georgetown zone final after the latter defeated Central High in their semi-final encounter.

Over at Tuschen, Parika Salem Secondary crushed Everest Academy on the back of a superb all-round performance by Wazim Mohamed. Batting first, Parika rattled up 262/7 in 26 overs with Wazim Mohamed smashing 95. He struck 13 fours and one maximum during his innings. Bashker Baldeo made 32 and Loochnaninl Rambharat scored 22. Bowling for Everest Academy, Azim Mohamed bagged 5/17.

In reply, Everest Academy were routed for 57 in just 12.4 overs. Real Austin score 30 of those runs. Wazim Mohamed completed his fine all round performance by claiming five wickets for just 15 runs which included a hat trick.
Today will see the South Georgetown zone final clash between Lodge Secondary and Charlestown Secondary at GCC, Bourda from 10:30 hours while action continues on the East Coast Demerara as Enmore Secondary tackles Golden Grove Secondary at Enterprise starting 12:00 noon.
