Jaguars Professional 3-Day League, Day 2…..Lower Corentyne and East Coast recorded victories

Lower Corentyne and East Coast Demerara record victories against Essequibo and West Demerara respectively in Day Two of the inaugural GCB/CGI Jaguars 3-Day League .
Entering the second day on 173 for 2 with a first innings’ lead of 72, Lower Corentyne improve their advantage by amassing 382 all out, a first innings lead of 281. Jonathan Foo top scored with a prolific 152, with middle order batsman David Latchaya and experience batsman Gajanand Singh supporting with 68 and 52 respectively. National Under-19 left arm spinner Akinie Adams produced amazing figures of 5 for 41, while Academy player Anthony Adams grabbed 3 for 112.
Batting a second time, Essequibo could only muster 159, with opening batsman Royan Fredricks 28, middle order batsman and Academy player Richardo Adams 61, Kevin Gordon 22 and Avenash Persaud 18. Right arm leg spinner Kassim Khan grabbed 2 for 6, off spinner Sharaz Ramcharran 2 for 23 and Veersammy Permaul 5 for 57, to end with a match haul of 10 for 80.
Lower Corentyne won by an innings and 122 runs.
Over at the Enterprise ground, East Coast Demerara defeated West Demerara by 6 wickets. Resuming on their overnight score of 135/5, East Coast Demerara lost their last 5 wickets for just 36 runs to be dismissed for 171. Bhaskar Yadram and Gavin Boodwah both struck half centuries. National left arm pacer Raymond Reifer bagged 5/32 to lead the bowling department of West Demerara.
Batting a second time and trailing East Coast Demerara by 60 runs, West Demerara could only manage 105 all out. National opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Reifer were the only batsmen to offer any resistance scoring 43 and 23 respectively. Leading the way in bowling department for East Coast Demerara, Gavin Moriah had the impressive figures of 3/7 off 9 overs. Leg spinner Steven Sankar had 3/37 while Vivian Albert and Ameer Khan had 2 wickets each.
East Coast Demerara lost 4 wickets in the process of chasing 46 for an outright victory. Yutesh Dhanpaul had 2/0 while Reifer and Romario Shephard took a wicket apiece.
East Coast Demerara won by 6 wickets.
At Cumberland, West Berbice are in a commanding position against Upper Corentyne after claiming a vital 50 runs lead on first innings. Upper Corentyne resuming on their overnight score of 55-1 was eventually dismissed for 182. Assad Fudadin top scored with 53, Arif Chan made 33, Rajiv Ivan 32 and Jason Sinclair 22, were the principle scorers. Bowling for West Berbice, national left arm spinner Gudakesh Motie grabbed 5/59 while Blairmont leg spinner Kevin Jawahir supported well with 4/28.
West Berbice in their second innings closed the day on 166/5 with West Indies Under-19 skipper Shimron Hetmyer stroking and entertaining 76, while Sherwin McPherson scored 31. The not out batsmen are Kevin Jawahir and Quacey Mc Pherson who has 33 and 22 respectively. Off spinner Eon Hooper has so far taken 2/45.
At the Everest ground, Georgetown resumed from their overnight score of 65 for 3 against Upper Demerara/East Bank, with Captain Christopher Barnwell on 28 and Kwamme Crosse on 3. National under 19 pace bowler Sherfane Rutherford had an impressive second day opening spell, removing both Barnwell and national youth player Ronaldo Alimohamed with consecutive balls, both caught behind by identical deliveries, which pitched on a good length, close to off stump and moving further away from the right handed batsmen, to be gratefully accepted by wicket keeper Tevin Imlach. The double impact saw Christopher Barnwell departing for 31 and Alimohamed for duck, leaving Georgetown uncomfortably placed at 69 for 5.
Wicket keeper Dexter Solomon then joined Kwamme Crosse in a much needed recovery, which was momentarily affected by Kwamme Crosse experiencing cramps, forcing him to retire hurt on 18, and resulting in all-rounder Kellon Carmichael stepping to the crease earlier than Georgetown had hoped. The two, Solomon and Carmichael then pushed the score to 143, before Carmichael on 14 was caught by Mark Rhobe off the bowling of Sherfane Rutherford. Gajanan Suknanan who joined Dexter Solomon, was then dismissed LBW to Budhan Baksh for 5, to leave Georgetown on 155 for 7.
Kwamme Crosse then returned to the crease, and together with Dexter Solomon took the score to 183 before Crosse was stumped by Tevin Imlach off the bowling of Totaram Bishun for 36. Totaram Bishun then had Devon Lord questionably adjudged caught bat-pad for 1, as Andre Stoll followed LBW to Steven Jacobs for duck, leaving Georgetown 6 runs behind Upper Demerara first innings score of 192 and 14 runs short of securing a first innings batting point. Dexter Solomon was the top scorer for Georgetown with 62 not out.
Sherfane Rutherford and Steven Jacobs were the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 33 and 3 for 29. Totaram Bishun grabbed 2 for 35, while Colin Benn and Budhan Baksh took one wicket apiece.
Upper Demerara/ East Bank commencing their second innings with 37 overs remaining for the day’s play, found themselves on the back foot after Andre Stoll sent back Ryan Shun caught by sub Jahron Byron for 2 and wicket Keeper Tevin Imlach LBW for 1, to have Upper Demerara/East Bank reeling at 11 for 2. Mark Rhobe was then bowled by Kellon Carmichael for 7 to reduce Upper Demerara/East Bank 42 for 3. Gajanan Suknanan then with consecutive deliveries dismissed Trevon Griffith caught and bowled for 36 and Budhan Baksh bowled for duck. Suknanan feat of 2 wickets in consecutive deliveries was the second time for the match.
Upper Demerara/ East Bank end the day on 68 for 5, 77 runs lead over Georgetown. Andre Stool has so far taken 2 for 6 from 6 overs and Gajanan Suknanan 2 for 15 from 7 overs.
