Jaguars 3-Day practice match…..Fudadin, Chandrika, Foo highlight first day

Assad Fudadin and Rajendra Chandrika were among the runs, and Jonathon Foo was impressive with the ball on Tuesday when the Guyana Jaguars three-day warm-up game commenced at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) ground, Bourda.

At stumps on a sun drenched day, Vishaul Singh XI, batting first against Robin Bacchus XI, closed on 280-6 from 90 overs.

The innings was built on a fantastic second wicket partnership of 192 between Fudadin, who completed a hundred, and Chandrika, who missed out on his by 14 runs.

Fudadin and young Tagenarine Chanderpaul opened the batting for Vishaul Singh XI, before the latter was caught by wicketkeeper Kemol Savoury off the bowling of seamer Paul Wintz for 10 at 27-1.

Chandrika, who was playing his first game since the second Test against Australia late last year, joined the in-form Fudadin and the pair proceeded to dominate the opposition bowling.

When the right-handed Chandrika was dismissed for a fine 86 (192 balls, 8x4s, 1×6), Vishaul Singh XI had reached 219-2. Chandrika was caught by Sherfane Rutherford off the bowling off Wintz.

Fudadin brought up his fifty off 79 balls with seven boundaries and his 100 from 126 balls, inclusive of 14 fours and three sixes.

However, once the partnership was broken, Robin Bacchus XI made significant inroads into the middle order, with Foo being the chief architect.

The off-spinner removed Vishaul Singh for 17 at 259-3 and had Raymon Reifer caught and bowled for one at 263-4, before leg-spinner Steven Sankar accounted for Kevon Boodie without scoring, caught at slip by Foo at 266-5.

Four runs later, Foo was again in the action, as he lured a set Fudadin into the drive, the batsman only succeeding in finding Wintz at cover.

Fudadin’s 145 spanned 218 deliveries, and included 17 fours and three maximums.

Anthony Bramble (12) and Veerasammy Permaul (02) were the not out batsmen at stumps.

Bowling for Bacchus XI, Foo ended the day with 3-31 off 22 overs, Wintz 2-33 off 12 and Sankar 1-10 off four.

The game forms part of preparations for the Guyana Jaguars ahead of the resumption of the Professional Cricket League Regional Four-day competition next week.
