An unbeaten 59 from 93 balls with seven fours from West Indies batter Shemaine Campbelle and a patient 25 from 73 balls from Wicket-Keeper Melanie Henry rallied the Guyanese ladies to 125-5 in 36.overs in reply to the 122-9 from their allotted 50 overs made by Northern Windwards.

Medium pacer Akaze Thompson had 3-28 from eight overs and got excellent support from former West Indies left-arm pacer Erva Giddings (2-14 from 5 overs) and debutant off-spinner Mandy Mangru (2-22 from 9 overs).

West Indies quickie Sabrina Munroe (1-8 from 6) and front line off-spinner Plaffiana Millington (1-18 from 10 with 3 maidens) were very economical, while Skipper and West Indies pacer Tremayne Smartt (0-11 from 6) and Campbelle (0-19 from 6) all bowled well to keep the shackles on the opposition ladies.

When Guyana, who finished runner-up to Jamaica in the tournament last year in Dominica, began their run-chase Lashuna Toussaint (2) edged Skipper Yasmine St. Ange to the Keeper with just seven runs on the board before Katana Mentore (6) was removed by Qiana Joseph at 23-2.

Campbelle and Henry added 66 for the third wicket to take the score to 89-3 before Krisani Irish had Henry caught and bowled, while Kavita Yadram (1) fell to Krisani Iris and Mangru (1) was run out to leave Guyana on 107-5. But Campbelle, who stroked the ball elegantly and Smartt, who hammered two fours from eight balls, ensured that Guyana won in emphatic fashion.

Earlier, Annica Andrew hit a painstaking 24 from 121 balls before she was fourth out to Mangru, who on the standby list for the last couple of years, got her first wicket at this level when she bowled the opener at 73-4 but only Qiana Joseph, whose 50-ball 33 was decorated with three boundaries and Roylin Cooper with an undefeated 19 from 32 balls, reached double figures for the Islanders.

Guyana will face Barbados on Saturday, August 8, 2015 in the second round.
