Reifer hoping for PCL success with Guyana Jaguars

Barbadian all-rounder Raymond Reifer is hoping for a successful outing at the upcoming Professional Cricket League (PCL) in November.

Reifer, who usually plies his trade for the Barbados National Cricket Team, will be turning out for the second year to his adopted team, The Guyana Jaguars.

The 24 year old, who is currently training with the Guyana Jaguars, spoke to the Guyana Times Sport at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) ground on Monday disclosing his goal to have a productive season in hopes of catching the eyes of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) selectors.

“I will just do the work and the let the performances speak “Reifer, who has played 30 first class matches and has scored 1186 runs at an average of 22.80.

With a high score of only 89 but has seven fifties to his name, Reifer would certainly bemoan these figures with the bat.
Bowling wise, Reifer has 39 wickets at an average of 26.17; though they are respectable returns with the ball, elevation to the senior team will require much more work.

The all-rounder said in response to the franchise system being used that the “PCL gives players new experience in different conditions and helps to bring to instill the aspect of comradely.”
The talented all-rounder had a few good outings for the Guyana franchise, as he made some important contributions with the bat and supported in the wickets column.

In addition, Reifer will be looking for a more complete tournament, in terms of his performance, as he seeks to better establish himself as a reliable all- rounder in the region.

Reifer, who played in the Champions League T20 overs competition in 2014, has grown to be an experienced cricketer in the region and never seems afraid of a challenge.

Playing most of his cricket in Barbados on more bouncy pitches, Reifer alluded to the fact that he had to adapt to change in conditions of the pitches in Guyana.

Currently, the Guyana Jaguars’ franchise overseas player, focus is on attaining high levels of fitness and being more consistent. The young man, who hails from the parish of St Lucy in Barbados, is keen on helping Guyana defend their PCL title and certainly help to press for a prized place on the West Indies team in the near future.

As the rebuilding phase with West Indies cricket continues, players like these, who certainly have the calibre and skill assets to become international stars, should make an enormous effort to perform outstandingly at the upcoming tournament.
