Scotiabank Kiddy Cricket Competition 2015 bowls off

The first round of the Scotiabank Kiddy Progression One Cricket Competition of the North Georgetown Zone bowled off yesterday with Green Acres going head-to-head and defeating St Angela’s Primary at the National Racquet Centre ground.

An impressive 61 from Shawn Thompson led Green Acres to victory over the opposition after winning the toss. Green Acres took first strike and posted 119-6 off their allotted 14 overs. Omesh Balgobin supported Thompson with 27. Bowling for St Angela’s Primary, L.Arthur and T. Thomas accounted for two wickets each.

In reply, St Angela’s could muster only 108-8 when their 14 overs expired. Ariana Laundry top-scored with 23 while T. Thomas and J. Griffith chipped in with 12 and 11, respectively. Jadyan Dowlin was the pick of the bowlers for the eventual victors with three wickets.

Green Acres have progressed to the second round of preliminary matches.

Meanwhile, the competition wrapped up in the Berbice River earlier in the week.

On Monday, Sand Hills Primary School emerged the champions of the Scotiabank Kiddy Progression One Cricket Competition in the Berbice River when they defeated Calcuni by 10 runs in the final.

Sand Hills batted first and made 98 runs, and bowled out Calcuni for 88 runs. The competition started with Sand Hills defeating De Veldt Primary by 61 runs in the first round. Sand Hills took first strike and made 139 runs then bowled out De Veldt Primary for a meagre 78 runs.

In the other first-round match, Calcuni Primary defeated Wiruni Primary by four runs, in a nail-biting encounter. Batting first, Calcuni made 85 runs and Wiruni replied with 81 runs, narrowly missing out on victory.

In the third-round encounter of the day Sand Hills posted 96 then bowled Wiruni out for 75 runs to claim the 21-run victory.

In addition to the matches played, five persons in the Berbice River were able to participate in an arranged Pre-Level One Coaching Programme, compliments of Scotiabank.

These persons were the Headmistress of Wiruni Primary, Sheldon Bovelle, Travis Moore, Leypert King and Jason Denhart.
