2017 GCB/HIH Under-19 Inter County Tournament ….Demerara and National Select Under-17 Advance to Finals

The Guyana Cricket Board and Hand in Hand Mutual Fire Insurance Company Limited Under-19 Inter County One Day 50 overs Tournament, continued with its third and final preliminary round of matches on Thursday 1 June 2017. The second round saw Demerara and the National Select Under-17 advancing to tomorrow’s Finals, which will be played at the National Stadium- Providence from 09 00 hours.
Over at the Everest Cricket Club ground, Berbice Under-19 batted first and were immediately placed on the back foot when the suffered the loss of Veramootoo Senwasane bowled Reyad Khan for duck, with the score on 9. Adrian Sukwah then joined Junior Sinclair, and together they took the score to 51 before they lost their second wicket of Suhwak run out for 20. Javid Karim was then dismissed bowled by Ashmead Nedd for duck. Nedd then sent back Sasenarine Sukhoo for 9, to leave Berbice on 69 for 4.

 

 

Then with the score on 105, Balkishun then grabbed the Select Under-17 fifth wicket, when he had opening batsman Junior Sinclair caught at short mid-wicket for a well accomplished 50. Emmanuel Secharran was then sent back with score on 109 for 6, caught and bowled by Junior Sinclair for 3. Steve Deonarine was the bowled by Ashmead Nedd for 16, to the leave Berbice on 121 for 7, as Nedd continued to  strike by bowling Keith Simpson for 8, to have Berbice reeling at 124 for 8. Karan Arjpaul was then bowled by Qumar Thorington for 5, with the score on 155 for 9, as Sachin Singh then bowled Sylus Tyndall for a well-played 25.

 

Bowling for the Select Under-17 Ashmead Nedd, Reyad Khan, Pradesh Balkishun, Junior Sinclair and Sachin Singh all took a wicket apiece.
In reply, the Select Under- 17 openers of Alex Algoo and Sachin Singh started out solidly taking the score to 23 before Sachin Singh was bowled Javid Karim for 3. Junior Sinclair was then caught and Simpson bowled Kevin Sinclair for 2, with the score on 29. The Select Under-17 then suffered a big blow when Keith Simpson in the second delivery had last round’s century maker Alex Algoo adjudged LBW for 21, to leave the Select Under-17, 35 for 3. From this stage, the Select Under-19 were still in a driving position, as 35.4 overs remained.

 

However, despite seemingly having sufficient overs to make the additional 121 runs for victory, the Select Under-17 failed to applicably conquer the Berbice bowling in their efforts to meet their 156 run target. From 35 for 3, the Select Under-17 reach 77 for 9 off 34.4 overs, requiring the last pair to bat beyond forty overs to avoid Berbice from getting a bowling point, which would have placed them above the Select Under-17 on points.

 

In the end, the Select Under-17 were bowled out for 85 off 40.5. Bowling for Berbice Deon Sinclair 3 for 18 from 7.5 overs, Karan Arjpaul grabbed 3 for 9 off 8 overs, Kevin Sinclair 2 for 12 from 7 overs. Javid Karim and Keith Simpson took one wicket each.

 

Berbice won the match by 70 runs, however, the Select Under-17 advanced to the GCB/HIH Under-19 One Day 50 Overs Finals, by virtue of accumulating more fast bowling points than Berbice. The Select Under-19 amassed 10.7 points and Berbice 10.2.
Over at the National Stadium- Providence, where play commenced at 09 00 hours, Demerara won the toss, and elected to bat. Their decision prove worthwhile, as the Demerara team constructively applied themselves to comply a massive 300 all out off 49.3 overs. Raymond Perez led the Demerara charge, with a solidified 125, while Ramnarine Chaturia made a solid 73. Bowling for Essequibo, Joshua Jones grabbed 4 for 65 and Joel fortune 3 for 47.
In reply, Essequibo found themselves struggling at 14 for 2 in fifth over, and eventually folded for 92, off just 24.4 overs. Kurt Lovell was the main contributor with the bat, with 27, while Chanderpaul Mohabir made 18 not out.

 

Bowling for Demerara, Keshram Seybadon grabbed 5 for 21 off 7 brilliant overs. He was well supported by Ronald Ali-Mohamed who grabbed 2 for 16 from 5 overs. Ritche Looknauth took 2 for 18 off 2.4 overs. Demerara won by 208.
Defending champions Demerara will clash with the National Select Under-17 in finals of the GCB/HIH Under-19 Inter County One Day 50 Overs Tournament at the National Stadium- Providence, Friday 2nd June, 2017 from 09:00 hours.
