The final match in the first round of the GCB/ Jaguars 3-Day League continued on Monday 4th September, 2017 at Albion grounds with Essequibo attempting to build on their first innings lead 99 runs, in an effort to create an outright victory. However, Lower Corentyne stuck to their task well in restricting Essequibo to a paltry 125 off 52.2 overs. This gave Essequibo an overall lead of 224. Batting for Essequibo were Kevon Boodie 31, Kemol Savory 26 and Vijai Surujpaul 23.
Bowling for Lower Corentyne, Raun Johnson took 3 for 21, kassim Khan 3 for 31 and Kelvin Umroa 3 for 35.
Lower Corentyne requiring 225 for victory, were at 166 for 5 in the days play requiring 55 more from 15 overs with 5 wickets in hand, were only able to accumulate a total of 190 all out in 82.1 overs. Kevlon Anderson completed 22, Seon Hetmyer 55, Alex Algoo 20 and top scorer for the day, Devon Clements 67. Bowling for Essequibo, Joshua Jones and Anthony Adams picked up 2 off of 14 run and 3 off 53 runs respectively, while Ricardo Adams whipped up 5 for 59 runs.
At the end of the day Essequibo won by 34 runs.
The second round of matches continues on Friday 8th September, 2017 with Upper Corentyne versus East Coast at Port Mourant, Georgetown doing battle with Lower Corentyne at Lusignan, West Berbice coming up against Essequibo at Bush Lot and East Bank faces West Demerara at Ogle. Matches are scheduled to commence at 9:30 a.m.
