2017 GCB/Jaguars 3-Day tournament Day 1 Round 2 – Barnwell 73*, Foo 63

 

On Friday 8th September, 2017, round two of the GCB/Jaguars 3-Day League continued with the eight teams continuing their battle. In this round we will witness Upper Corentyne versus East Coast, Georgetown versus Lower Corentyne, West Berbice versus Essequibo and East Bank versus West Demerara.

With sunny weather, at Bush Lot ground we saw West Berbice battling the first place holders, Essequibo. Match commenced at 9:30 a.m with Essequibo winning the toss and commencing their 1st Innings batting against West Berbice. Essequibo in this innings put up 196 in 41.2 overs, all out. Opening batsman, Kevon Boodie totaled 40 off 41 balls before he was LWB by Gudakesh Motie. Ricardo Peters was able to contribute 20 runs off 39 balls, Mark Williams and Nealand Codogan also added 23 and 25 runs off 42 and 12 balls respectively. Top scorer in the first innings was Ricardo Adams who passed the half century mark with 57 off 49 balls. Bowling for West Berbice, Andrew Dutchin and Leon Andrews both picked up 2 wickets off 44 and 22 balls individually. Gudesh Motie was the top dog, picking up 6 wickets off 51 runs.

At Lusignan, Georgetown won the toss and inserted Lower Corentyne to bat first and was at 87 for 6 off 36 overs at lunch. Jason Sinclair 19 off 40, Kevlon Anderson 11 off 69, Seon Hetmyer 16 off 33, and Devon Clements 25 off 35, all contributed double figures to the total. However, in came Johnathan Foo batting at number six, stroked 63 to help Lower Corentyne record a satisfactory score of 165all out

off 58.5 overs. Bowling for Georgetown, Gajanan Suknanan 3 for 43, Steven Sankar 3 for 42 and Ashmead Nedd 2 for 35. Christopher Barnwell was the other wicket taker with 1 for 4.

Georgetown in their 1st innings reached 154 for 8 off 41 overs, after benefiting from a first wicket partnership of 50 between Robin Bacchus 36 and Raymond Perez 14. Christopher Barnwell has so far stroked an unbeaten 73, with his not out partner being national youth player Ashmead Nedd, who is yet to score.

With warm, sunny weather over at Port Mourant, Upper Corentyne won the toss and went in to bat dispelling an impressive 233 runs all out after 67.1 overs. Kevin Sinclair and Balchand Baldeo placed double figures on the table with 38 and 35 runs respectively, Rajiv Ivan 39 off 62 balls, 29 off 56 from Anthony Bramble and Joshua Ramsammy top scoring with 65 off 141 balls. On the bowling line up for East Coast, Chanderpaul Hemraj picked up an impressive 5 for 22, Vivian Albert 2 for 28, and Jermaine Martins, Bhaskar Yadram and Amir Khan picking up a wicket each.

In East Coast’s 1st innings they concluded with 72 for 2 off 22 overs, Bhaskar Yadram obtained 17 off 46 balls, Brian Sattuar 26 before play came to an end on the first day of round 2.

On Saturday 9th September we see games continuing at the said locations while East Bank battles West Demerara at Tuschen from 9:30 a.m.
