Round two of the 2018 GCB/Hand in Hand Insurance Under-19 Inter-County tournament concluded on Tuesday 17th April, 2018 at the Lusignan Community Center ground, where we witnessed Berbice defeating the 2017 champions, Demerara. Demerara in their first innings scored a meager 148 all out in 49 overs, to which Berbice replied with 120 all out in 37.2 overs.
Demerara then set out to bat in their second innings and crumbled for just 50 runs off 22.4 overs. Bhaskar Yadram was the only player to reach double figures, top scoring with 22runs. Kelvin Umroa destroyed the Demerara batting line up, collecting 7 wickets for 16 runs. He gained valuable support from Karan Arjpaul with 2 for 20 and Kevlon Anderson who picked up 1 wicket.
Berbice, in reply, scored a quick 81 for 2 comfortably in just 9 overs. Opening batsmen, Alex Algoo and Junior Sinclair defended their wickets scoring 38 and 31 off 24 and 23 balls respectively. Javid Karim and Kevin Sinclair were not out on 1 and 8 runs, respectively. Ashmead Nedd and Sagar Hathiramani took one wicket a piece.
Berbice won by 8 wickets.
The third and final round of the 3-Day format of this competition kicks off from Wednesday 18th April, 2018 to Friday 20th April, 2018 with Essequibo facing Demerara at Tuschen and Berbice contesting Select Under-17 at Everest ground. Matches commenced from 10 00 hours.
