The GCB/Hand in Hand Insurance Under-19 Inter-County got off to a brilliant start on Tuesday 10th April, 2018, with matches at Lusignan Community Centre ground, on East Coast Demerara and Everest Cricket Club ground on camp street.
At Lusignan, Essequibo won the toss and decided to bat, however their decision appeared insignificant as their batting line up struggled to cope with the Berbice bowlers, as they crumbled for a meagre 80 off 38 overs. Bowling for Berbice, Karran Arjpaul return excellent figures of 3 for 3, while Keith Simpson and Kevin Sinclair grabbed 2 wickets for 3 and 6 runs respectively.
Berbice in their first innings, reached 149 for 3 off 55 overs at close of play on the first day. Opening batsman, Alex Algoo is unbeaten on 83. He gained good support from Kevlon Anderson with 36. Qumar Thorrington 5 is the other not out batsman.
Over at Everest, Demerara won the toss and elected to take up to the crease, where they compiled a mammoth 445 for 8 in 97 overs at the close of play on the first day. Opening batsman, Adrian Hinds stroked an impressive 94, while national and Windies youth player, Bhaskar Yadram took centre stage on day one, when he unveiled himself as a class above the rest with an entertaining 260 off 219 balls,
which included 26 fours and 14 sixes. Dwayne Dick also contributed with 30 off 50 balls at stumps on day one.
