Vryman’s Erven, Canje and New Amsterdam Secondary Schools registered victories in the New Amsterdam-Canje Zone of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) National Secondary School Cricket League (NSSCL) sponsored by Bank’s DIH Ltd’s Coco Cola and Rainforest Water along with Digicel.
At Cumberland ground, Canje Secondary School won the toss and elected to take first strike posting 106 all out in 25.3 overs. Only Trevon Stanlislaus’s 24 and National Under-17 all-rounder, Kevin Sinclair 22 offered much resistance. Bowling for Berbice Educational Institute, Nikeem Noble and Randy Ramnauth had excellent figures of 2/12 and 2/14 respectively off their allotted six overs.
In reply, Berbice Educational Institute were held to 66 all out in 29.1 overs as Sinclair had figures of 3-9, Joshua Bacchus with 3/17 and Zeynul Ramsammy took 2/7 off six miserly overs.
At Berbice High School ground, the home team went down to New Amsterdam Secondary School (NASS) by 108 runs. NASS won the toss and decided to take first strike they posted 167 all out in 29.5 overs. Garfield Benjamin scored 34 and Joshua Deonarine contributed 28. Naresh Chand,Raveshkar Budhu, Brandon Pydanna, Abdul Ramsammy and Bryan Mahadeo combined to dismiss the NASS batsmen with two wickets each.
Berbice High School in reply, was blown away for 59 as Simeon Budhan had superb figures of 6/17 off six overs and Ruben Latch 2/17. Naresh Chand was the only batsman to offer resistance with 33.
Meanwhile, Vryman’s Erven Secondary completed a tense two-wicket victory over Tutorial Secondary School. Tutorial Secondary School won the toss and chose to bat registering a competitive 180/5 when their overs expired. Melvin Singh made a well played 69 which included nine fours and a solitary six. He was supported by Rovaldo Europe and Rajindra Beharry with 21 not out and 20 respectively. Bowling for Vryman’s Erven Secondary, T. Williams took 2/39.
Vryman’s Erven Secondary manage to get to their target for the loss off eight wickets in just 20.1 overs despite a spirited display of fast bowling from Leon Swami who took 4/49 including a hat-trick. Leading the chase for Vryman’s Erven Secondary was R. Williams with a blistering 40 not out including four boundaries and three towering sixes. Teron Sampson contributed 39 and S. Bacchus 32. Singh returned with the ball to take 2/40.
Action in the League continues next week in the West Demerara Zone. On Wednesday, Vreed-en-Hoop Secondary and LaGrange Secondary clash at the Wales Community Centre ground. Then on Thursday K’s Comprehensive takes on West Dem Secondary at the Wales Community Centre ground.
