Speaking to the Guyana Jaguars team prior to the start of the WICB Professional Cricket League (PCL) 4-Day 2015/16 match between Guyana and Windward Islands at the Guyana National Stadium today, Secretary of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB), Anand Sanasie, lauded Albion Cricket Club for continuing to produce national stars.
The Secretary’s compliment was a result of the 20 year old left-arm orthodox spinner, Gudakesh Motie, making his senior regional debut in the match. Motie is a product of Albion Cricket Club and has been drafted into the team to replace his fellow Berbician, Veerasammy Permaul, who is out with an ankle injury.
A simple ceremony was held to hand over to him his baggy cap to identify him as a senior national player. He was congratulated by his teammates; GCB President, Drubahadur, and GCB Secretary, Anand Sanasie; along with GCB staff.
“I want to thank the Albion Cricket Club for producing yet another national player who impresses all with his bowling. This Club through its extensive developmental plan, continues to produce high quality players for Guyana and we are grateful. I am sure the management body is jubilant about young Motie’s elevation”, posited Sanasie.
He added, “To Motie, congratulations, and I hope you value the meaning of receiving this baggy cap. Go out there and hold your own, do your best and make yourself and all of us proud. To the captain and the team, we came out from the last season as champions and we can do it again. We know it would not be easy but we are confident. You have been working very hard; this is the time where you show the results of your hard work. Do us proud over the next five months.”
The first three rounds of this Tournament featuring Guyana will be played at the Guyana National Stadium. Guyana Jaguars will battle Windward Island Volcanoes over the next four days before taking on Leeward Islands Hurricanes in the second round (Nov 13-16), and Barbados Pride in the third round (Nov 20-23).
