The world is coming to celebrate with cricket’s greatest all-rounder as he approaches 80 not out.
Sir Garry Sobers will have one heck of an 80th birthday present next month, as West Indies legends Brian Lara, Sir Vivian Richards and Clive Lloyd are set to join with the likes of Englishman Andrew Flintoff and Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya for a once-in-a-lifetime T20 match at Kensington Oval.
Chairman of Barbados’ 50th anniversary of Independence celebrations coordinating committee, Senator Maxine McClean, made the revelation as part of yesterday’s launch of a month-long set of activities titled Sir Garry: 80 Not Out.
“Our 50th anniversary of Independence celebrations would have been incomplete if we did not take a moment to honour and show our appreciation to Sir Garry Sobers, [so] we take this opportunity to thank him for his contribution to our nation, the Caribbean and the world,” she said.
