Essequibo, West Berbice, Georgetown and New Amsterdam Canje recorded victories when the latest round of matches in the Cricket Guyana Inc (CGI) Local Franchise League 50-over tournament concluded yesterday.
A fine century by Ricardo Peters led Essequibo to a 206-run victory over East Bank Demerara at Farm. Peters stroked 111 as Essequibo posted 346-8 off their allotted 50 overs after they were inserted in front of a fair-sized crowd. The right-handed Peters shared in a second wicket stand of 149 with Royan Fredericks after Essequibo lost opener Kevon Boodie for 25.
Peters stroked ten fours and fives sixes and together with Fredericks frustrated the opposition with sensible batting in favourable sunshine. Fredericks who slammed seven fours and four sixes departed for a fluent 82, while Ricardo Adams went for 19, but Peters whose century came off 104 balls timed the ball well and shared in a useful fourth wicket partnership of 64 with Parmesh Parsotam who scored a run-a-ball 40 to help boost Essequibo. Shivram Persaud claimed 3-31 and Jermaine Ramroop 2-63.
Robin Bacchus and Leonard Caleb added 54 for the opening stand to give East Bank Demerara a bright start before Bacchus, who struck four fours, was caught off Fredericks for 23. The host then lost Shawn Pooran and Danny Narayan both without scoring while Caleb went for 25 with two fours and a six as they slipped to 56-4. The Essequibians maintained a steady line and length as East Bank were bowled out for 140 in 34.3 overs. Stephan Browne made 28 as Anthony Adams finished with 4-25, Ricardo Adams 4-27 and Fredericks 2-13.
At Albion, West Berbice beat West Demerara by four wickets. Keemo Paul stroked a confident century to lift West Demerara to 223 all out in 44 overs, batting first. Paul who faced 100 balls smashed 15 fours and four maximums to anchor his team innings. Akshaya Persaud and Safraz Esau made 16 each as Kevon Jawahir bagged 5-59, Keyron Fraser 3-28 and Steffan Adams 2-48.
West Berbice responded with 227-6 in 46 overs. Andrew Dutchin and Krishundat Ramoo rescued their team with a seven-wicket stand of 123 after they were restricted to 104-6. Dutchin slammed an unbeaten 72 while Ramoo cracked 69 not out. Avishkar Sewkarran and Raffell Estraido made 12 and 19 respectively; Persaud claimed 2-38.
At Bourda, Georgetown overcame East Coast Demerara by 77 runs. Georgetown scored 209 all out in 49.2 overs, taking first strike. Sherfene Rutherford hit 53, Jeetendra Sookdeo 40 and Kwame Crosse 31. Leg spinner Steven Sankar snared 4-40 and Vivian Albert 2-29. East Coast were sent packing for 132 in 41.2 overs in reply. Brian Sattaur struck 50 and Kamesh Yadram 25; left arm spinner Devon Lord grabbed 5-24 and Kellon Carmichael 2-24.
At Port Mourant, New Amsterdam Canje got the better of Upper Corentyne by 36 runs. New Amsterdam Canje batted first and managed 218-8 in 50 overs. Akeem Hinds led with 70, while Eugene La Fleur made 47 and Jomal La Fleur 22; Clinton Pestano captured 3-30 and Jonathan Foo 2-38.
Upper Corentyne were bowled out for 182 in 48.4 overs in reply. Pestano got 37, Eon Hooper 31 and David Latchaya 20. Eugene La Fleur took 3-22 and Royston Crandon 2-36.
The League continues tomorrow, Tuesday December 8, 2015. Lower Corentyne/New Amsterdam/Canje will clash with East Bank Demerara/Upper Demerara at Farm ground, West Demerara and Upper Corentyne will meet at Wales ground, East Coast Demerara and West Berbice will battle at Enmore ground, andEssequibo will take on Georgetown at GCC.
