The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) extends congratulations to West Indies Under-19 Team on reaching the ICC U-19 World Cup 2016 Final, by virtue of defeating Bangladesh today. An enthralling final is expected when the flamboyant Caribbean boys meet India on Sunday, February 14, 2016.
The GCB is delighted with the performances of the Guyanese boys, Shimron Hetmyer, Tevin Imlach and Keemo Paul who have all contributed significantly in the team’s success. The Board gives credit to its Professional Cricket Development Structure, which encompasses collaborated training between established senior contracted players and emerging national players under the academy program. This collaborated component of cricket development, has advanced valuable support to all players involved, providing a great blend of youth and experience, and promoting the treasured purpose of technical soundness, Physical Fitness, Nutrition, Healthy Lifestyle and Mental Toughness.
The GCB is of the view, that these youths maturity, grit and determination are semblances of the product of future great cricketers who have been nurtured under a purposeful and meaningful professional cricket Development structure.
We encourage the West Indies U-19 team to continue to demonstrate attributes of professionalism – to be goal oriented and tolerant by exhibiting an unwavering commitment towards attaining set individual and group goals. With such talented youth players, we are confident that they will lift the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2016.
