President and Vice-President of the Guyana Cricket Board, Drubahadur and Fizul Bacchus, received the runner-up of the NAGICO Super50 2015 Tournament, Guyana Jaguars, this morning at the Cheddi Jagan-Timehri International Airport.
In his address to the team upon their arrival, the President congratulated them for reaching the final of the NAGICO Super50 2015 Tournament and asked them not to take the lost to Trinidad and Tobago in the final too hard.
“You have bowled well in the final but didn’t get going with the bat. The best batsmen in the world struggle against Sunil Narine and dealing with bowlers like him it is one area we need to do more work on for the future”. The limited overs contest is finished and it is important that you put that behind you and channel all your focus on the second leg of the Regional 4-Day Tournament. It will be a test of your determination and self-belief. We at the GCB believe you can do it and I am certain that your fans out there believe the same”.
Bacchus also urged the players to regroup and turn their attention to the Regional 4-Day. “One team had to loose in the final but Guyana fought hard to reach the there and we recognize your efforts. Yes we didn’t win the title but we had some outstanding individual performances. Veerasammy Permaul continued his brilliance with the ball while Raymon Reifer and Shivnarine Chanderpaul produced a fighting match winning innings each. I would like you to take these positives and energy into the longer version of the game. Remember you are leading in the Regional 4-Day and it is important that you maintain that lead.
On their way to the final, Guyana defeated Windward Islands by 142 runs and Barbados by two wickets in the preliminary round and Jamaica by six wickets in the semifinal.
The second leg of the Regional 4-Day will begin on 6 February 2015. Guyana is leading after the first leg with 57 points.
