Georgetown-Mahaicony Combine and Essequibo Combine earn the right to face each other in the final of the NSSCL Combine Elite League when they defeated Berbice Combine and Upper Demerara-West Demerara Combine respectively in the GCB/Banks DIH LTD/ Digicel National Secondary School Cricket League.
In the ancient county of Berbice, Georgetown-Mahaicony defeated a strong Berbice Combine team by 58 runs at Albion Community Centre ground. Batting first, Georgetown-Mahaicony Combine made 181 all out in 47.3 overs on the back of a stylish 74 by former national under-15 batsman Bashkar Yadram. Yadram showed great composure as he batted most of the innings while keeping the Berbician bowlers at bay. He struck 10 fours and a solitary six during his knock. He was well supported by the inform Joshua Persaud who struck 48 which included four fours. Bowling for Berbice Combine, national under-15 player Junior Sinclair bagged 5/33 off 9.3 overs.
In reply, Berbice Combine could only manage 123 when they were dismissed in the 40 th over. Only Alex Algoo offered any resistance with 28. Bowling for the Georgetown Combine team, Joshua Persaud claimed 3/16 off 7.3 overs. Bashkar Yadram returned with the ball to take 3/24 off 10 overs.
In the Cinderella county, Essequibo Combine got the better of Upper Demerara-West Demerara Combine by 5 wickets. Upper Demerara-West Demerara Combine batting first scored 164/5 off 40 overs. Kevin Christian top scored with 38 while Sagar Hetheramani contributed 26. Bowling for Essequibo Combine, Bishan Moses had 2/30 off 8 overs.
In reply, Essequibo Combine got to their target of 162 with three overs to spare losing only five wickets in the process. Quintin Sampson led the way with 39. He also had good support from Omesh Ramdahin who made 34 while Rayon Venture was not out at the end with 27 not out.
With this win the powerful Georgetown-Mahaicony Combine and a strong Essequibo Combine is battling in the final of the NSSCL Combine Elite League today at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground, Bourda.
