Lower Corentyne Secondary defeated Port Mourant Secondary on the back of a scintillating century from National Under-15 batsman Kevlon Anderson while Mahaica won against Mahaicony in the Combine Elite Leg of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) National Secondary School Cricket League (NSSCL) sponsored by Banks DIH Ltd’s Coco Cola and Rainforest Water along with Digicel.
At Port Mourant ground, Lower Corentyne Secondary defeated Port Mourant Secondary by 102 runs as National Under 15 batsman Kevlon Anderson registered a superb unbeaten century. Batting first after winning the toss, Lower Corentyne Secondary amassed an imposing 163/4 in just 20 overs. Ansderson led the way with an unbeaten 103 laced with 15 elegant fours. Keith Simpson supported well with 29.
Port Mourant in reply folded for just 61 in 12.4 overs as Ezekiel Kempadoo claimed 4/11 and Simon Naidoo had 3/13. Lower Corentyne has now booked their place in the final awaiting the winner of the Skeldon Line Path Secondary and Corentyne Comprehensive Secondary game.
Meanwhile, the first match of the Combine Elite leg of the competition commenced recently with Mahahica playing Mahaicony at Fairfield ground. Batting first, Mahaicony registered 109/5 in 25 overs. Wendell Fordyce top scored with 49 while Shaquille Weekes claimed 3/17 bowling for Mahaica.
Mahaica in reply, raced to 114/4 in 18 overs. Phillip Doodnat led the chase with a composed 43 not out.
Matches continue tomorrow, February 10, 2016 as Georgetown’s winner, Chase Academy, faces East Coast Demerara winner, Annandale Secondary, at Everest ground. In the Corentyne Zone, the second semi-final will be played between Skeldon Line Path Secondary and Corentyne Comprehensive Secondary at Port Mourant ground.
