The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB)/Banks DIH Ltd/Digicel National Secondary School Cricket League (NSSCL) will resume today at the Fairfield ground with Lancaster Secondary clashing with Hope Secondary in the Mahaica Zone.
The Fairfield ground will be the home to a week of matches, as schools in both the Mahaica and Mahaicony zones will compete for top zone honours. The winning schools from both zones will then play for the Mahaica/Mahaicony District champion trophy.
Additionally, matches between schools will also continue in the East Bank Demerara and Bartica zones, and the districts of East Coast Demerara, Corentyne, Upper Demerara and East Bank Demerara.
The completion of these matches will set the stage for competition between the winners of the respective zones and districts, as means towards determining the countrywide winner.
The GCB/Banks DIH Limited/ Digicel NSSCL countrywide winner will enjoy the privilege of sponsorship to participate in the 2016 Sir Garfield Sobers School Tournament. The final for the NSSCL Inter-school aspect of the League is scheduled for February 19.
The NSSCL will also feature a Combine Elite aspect with the selected group of better players from each zone and district competing for elite honours within two broad catchment areas or country districts- namely Upper Demerara/Essequibo and Georgetown/Berbice.
An illustration of Upper Demerara/Essequibo will see the Upper Demerara Combine Elite Squad playing the Highway Combine Elite, the winner of which shall play the East Bank Demerara Combine Elite, the winner of which shall play the West Demerara Combine Elite, the winner of which shall play the Essequibo Combine Elite. The latter (Essequibo Combine Elite) would have been derived from matches played between their zone and districts teams.
The winner of the Upper Demerara/Essequibo Country District will then clash in the countrywide final against the winner of the Georgetown/Berbice Country District. The Georgetown/Berbice Country Districts cover the districts of Georgetown, East Coast Demerara, Mahaica/Mahaichony, West Berbice, New Amsterdam/Canje and Corentyne.
The final of the NSSCL Combine Elite phase of the League is scheduled for March 4.
