The first round of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Under-15, Inter-county Championship sponsored by Dave West Indian Exports Guy-NY saw Berbice Under-15 defeating the President XI by eight wickets via Duckworth Lewis System and Demerara whipping Essequibo by 112 runs.
Playing at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) Berbice were set a revised target of 105 from 36 overs after a lengthy rain interruption and reached their target with 15 overs remaining.
Opener Carl Gilgeous top scored in the chase while Jerron France who made 22 not out was supported by Seon Glasgow Jnr on 18 not out with Berbice reaching 105-2.
Earlier President XI made 124 all out as Daniel Dharamdat held the innings together with a top score of 29 while lower order batsman Abdul Ramsammy was the next best scorer with 20 as the President XI lost wickets at regular intervals to be bowled out in 45.1 overs.
Aaron Beharry led the bowling with figure of 3-10 as Nigel Deodat 2-14 and Glasgow 2-26 were among the wickets as well.
Over at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ground, Demerara batted first and compiled 256/6 with Shoaib Shaw top-scoring with 79 while Sachin Singh and Yudister Persaud contributed 50 and 40 respectively. Essequibo skipper, Amos Sarwan was the pick of the bowlers with 3/38.
In reply, Essequibo could only managed 144/6 when their alloted overs expired. Lance Roberts was the main stay of the innings with 42. And Daniel Motoo was the destroyer with the ball for Demerara, grabbing 4/26.
The competition continues on today as Berbice takes on Demerara at DCC and Essequibo clashes with GCB President XI at Wales ground.
