Defending champions Chase Academy and Christ Church Secondary set up a final showdown after both teams recorded comfortable victories in the semi-finals of the North Georgetown Zone of the 2016 edition of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) National Secondary School Cricket League (NSSCL).
Chase Academy posted a sizable 233/8 in 30 overs against St John’s College at the Demerara Cricket Club ground. National Under-17 all-rounder, Ashmead Nedd, smashed a belligerent 96. He struck 11 fours and four thunderous sixes during his innings. National Under-15 captain and opener Sachin Singh, also contributed with the bat making 39 and Garrick Persaud chipped in with 36. Bowling for St John’s, Shemar Bookie was the pick of the bowlers taking 3/9 amid the carnage. Yohancy Angoy took 2/24.
The St John’s boys showed little fight when it was their turn to bat, folding for just 38 runs. Dwain Dick had 3/3 and Tyrese Trescot took 2/9.
At GCC ground, Christ Church registered an easy eight-wicket victory over School of Nation. Batting first, School of Nation were dismissed for 95 with Christopher Baljit making 31. Renaldo Mohamed had 3/22 and Aaron Beharry took 3/25 bowling for Christ Church.
In reply, skipper Alphius Bookie made 45 not out laced with six sweetly timed boundaries as he led his team to their winning target. Mark Ramsammy took the only two wickets to fall.
Over at Zeeburg, Uitvlugt Secondary squeezed past Leonora Secondary by two wickets. Leonora Secondary made 107 all out in 20.2 overs. Kevin Christian top scored with 31. Salman Khan and Reaz Khan had figures of 3/10 and 2/29 respectively.
Uitvulgt in their reply, limped to 108/8 in 20.4 overs. Lalchan Seeram led the run chase with 38 while Reaz Khan supported with 36. Kevin Christian had 4/23 bowling for Leonora.
Friday October 28 will see Diamond Secondary playing Friendship Secondary in the East Bank Demerara Zone final at Everest from 10:00 hours and GCC will host the East Georgetown Zone semi-final between Mae’s Secondary and Tutorial High from 12:00 noon.
