Opener Shimron Hetmyer stroked sixteen fours and one six in a top score of 98 to lead holders Guyana to a comfortable seven-wicket victory over Barbados when the Regional U19 50-over tournament continued yesterday in Jamaica.
Playing at Chedwin Park, Nain, Hetmyer faced 68 balls in 96 minutes stay at the crease and shared in a second wicket stand of 104 with Balchan Baldeo 23 (2×4) to set Guyana on course following Tevin Imlach demise for 11 after they restricted Barbados for 216-6. Keemo Paul and Travis featured in an unbroken fourth wicket partnership of 31 to see their team home as they ended on 218-3 in 38 overs; Extras assisted with 38. Kirton took two wickets.
Earlier, Lee-Germon Gaskin top scored with 68 to lead Barbados batting. He struck four fours and three sixes and got support from Shamar Springer 36 (2×4,2×6) and Akil Greenidge 28 (5×4); extras contributed 34. Paul and Ronaldo Ali Mohamed claimed two wickets each while Baldeo had one.
At St. Elizabeth High School ground, Leeward Islands overcame Windward Islands by one wicket in a thrilling contest. Windwards batted first and scored 141 all out in 39.3 overs. J. Hilton cracked 47 (3×4,1×6), R Johan supported with 36 (3×4) while extras contributed 37. Alzarri Joseph claimed 3-11 and C Archibald Jr 3-27.
Leewards replied with 142-9 in 29.3 overs. T Williams slammed 43 (4×4,2×6) and S Williams made 30 (2×4); extras supported with 22. O Lewis snared 3-22 and J Eugene 2-6.
