Lower Corentyne registered their second consecutive outright victory in as many matches when they took on Georgetown in the second round of the Jaguars 3-Day League 2016 at the Albion Cricket Club ground over the weekend.
On the third day, the home team resumed on their overnight score of 249/6 manage to get to 290 taking a vital 78 runs lead. Sharaz Ramsarran finished on an unbeaten 30. Jonathan Foo had earlier registered his second consecutive century (127). Bowling for Georgetown, Gajanan Suknanand took 4/67, Devon Lord had 3/57 and Christopher Barnwell claimed 2/40.
Georgetown batting a second time could only muster 140 with Robin Bacchus scoring 57 and Barnwell 40. Veerasammy Permaul followed up his first innings 4-wicket haul with 5/39 in the second innings to move to 19 wickets after the first two matches. Raun Johnson also had 2/34.
Lower Corentyne then raced to 65/1 with Foo scoring an unbeaten 26 and Kandasammy Surujnarine 24 not out.
At Cumberland ground, Essequibo registered a come from behind victory against West Berbice. Resuming on 111/8, Essequibo only manage to add eight runs before they were dismissed.
West Berbice in their second innings then made 165. Avishkar Sewkarran top scored with 40 while Shimron Hetmyer scored 35. Bowling for Essequibo, Ricardo Adams bagged 5/25 while Anthony Adams supported with 3/29.
Kevin Boodie then struck an entertaining century to spur Essequibo to victory. Essequibo reached 216/4. Ricardo Adams returned with the bat to hit 49 and Ricardo Peters made 29. Boodie was dismissed for 102 Kevin Jawahir had 2/47 bowling for West Berbice.
At Enterprise Community Centre ground, East Coast Demerara made light work of their target of 117 losing four wickets in the process. Chanderpaul Hemraj scored 34 while Rajendra Chandrika ended on 31 not out.
At Everest Cricket Club ground, West Demera registered their first outright victory. In their second innings they made 236 all out. Raymon Reifer made 38 and Romario Shepherd scored 32.
Tagenarine Chanderpaul top scored with 75. Ershaad Ali bagged impressive figures of 7/62 for East Bank Demerara. With a target of 329, East Bank Demerara failed to bat the final 2 sessions as they folded for 129. Mark Brown scored 40 while Sherfane Rutherford made 32. Bowling for West Demerara, Reifer had 3/14 and Rishi Looknauth took 3/45 bowling for West Demerara.
The League continues with the third round starting on Thursday 8th September, 2016 with matches at Everest, GCC, Port Mourant and Cumberland.
