An aggressive 75 from all-rounder Royston Crandon, who later took 3-25, spearheaded Chris Barnwell’s XI to a 106-runs win against a Rest team in the first of two practice matches yesterday at Everest.
Crandon, who faced 82 balls and hit six fours and two sixes in his confident 75, was supported by Barnwell who hit four fours in a fluent 64-ball 54 and Jonathon Foo, who looked far more matured than when he last played for Guyana in 2010, slammed a six and a four in 38 as Barnwell’s XI reached 281-7 when their 50 overs expired.
Medium pacer Paul Wintz, who is a part of the Jaguar’s 14-man squad to participate in the 2015 NAGICO Super50 in Trinidad & Tobago from January 15, took 3-59 for the Rest Team who were bowled out for 175 in 43.1 overs despite a 66-run opening stand between Kandasammy Surujnarine (22) and Essequibo opener Kevin Boodie who clobbered three fours and a six in the third over from left-arm pacer Raymond Reifer which cost 19 runs.
Boodie, who became the only Guyanese to score a double century in a senior Inter-County 50-over game, was taken in the deep off Barnwell, for a rapid 39-ball 44 with seven fours and a six.
After that only Four-Day Skipper Vishaul Singh, who struggled for 66 balls to make 29 and Jason St Clair (20), reached 20 as Crandon (3-25), Barnwell (3-16) and Devendra Bishoo (2-41) did the damage.
All of Guyana’s matches will be played under lights and the final practice match is set for Friday, January 9, at Providence in a Day-Night affair which is scheduled to commence at 13:30 hrs.
