Guyana beat Leeward Islands by 126 runs on Sunday, July 12, 2015 to record their second victory in the Regional Under-17 Tournament 2015 in Canaan, Trinidad and Tobago.
Guyana posted 207 all out in 48.1 overs, batting first. Ramnarine Chatura led with 39, while Joshua Persaud cracked 33, Richie Looknauth 23 not out and Ronaldo Ali Mohamed 23. Zawandi Whyte claimed 4-39 and Tassilo Allen 2-25. Leewards were sent packing for 81 in 30.2 overs in reply. Jemuel Cabey made 23 as Bhaskar Yadram snared 3-10.
On July 10, Guyana defeated Barbados by 66 runs at Shaw Park, in Trinidad and Tobago. Barbados’ poor form continued as they collapsed for a disappointing 135 off 36.3 overs, in pursuit of a revised target of 202 off 42 overs.
Left-arm spinner Ashmead Nedd destroyed the innings with four for 23 while Kevin Sinclair (2-19) and Sagar Hatheramani (2-27) grabbed two wickets apiece. Opener Shian Brathwaite top-scored with 38 while Najee Holder chipped in with 32 and Donte Niles, 21.
Earlier, captain Rolando Alimohamed top-scored with 70 from 67 balls with nine fours and two sixes while Bhaskar Yadram stroked an unbeaten 69 from 73 deliveries with four fours and a six as Guyana reached 219 for eight after opting to bat first. The pair added 129 for the sixth wicket after Guyana faltered at 70 for five in the 26thover.
Guyana went down to Jamaica by six wickets in the first round and by 103 runs to Windward Islands in the second runs.
The Tournament continues with the fifth round on July 14, 2015. Guyana will clash with Trinidad and Tobago at Mount Pleasant, Leeward Islands will take on Windward Islands at Canaan, and Barbados will go up against Jamaica at Shaw Park.
