Sydney, Australia – A superb knock by opener Hayley Matthews couldn’t propel the West Indies Women to victory over Australia Women in the 2nd ICC Women’s Championship One Day International.
Chasing 257 runs for victory, Matthews and Kycia Knight gave the Windies a solid start, putting on 115 runs for the opening stand. Matthews hit 89 from 108 balls, smashing twelve boundaries along the way. Knight scored 45 from 67 balls, hitting four boundaries and a six.
However, with the fall of Knight close to the halfway stage of the inning, the Windies Women endured a collapse. They constantly lost wickets and had fallen to 157/5. Britney Cooper (25) and Shemaine Campbelle (23) were the only main contributors thereafter.
