The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) has assisted the Guyana Blind Cricket Association (GuyBCA) with a monetary contribution to compete in the West Indies Cricket Council for the Blind and Visually Impaired (WICCBVI) Regional Blind Cricket Tournament which will begin on July 8, 2016 in Trinidad and Tobago.
President of the GCB, Drubahadur, wished the team success for the Tournament, adding that the GCB has always been supportive of GuyBCA and will continue to do so as they play a very integral part in our society. He urged them to keep up their discipline, zest and eagerness and continue to make a difference in society. The President expressed his admiration for their self-belief and confidence.
Drubahadur also urged the team to perform well in the tournament so that their players could be selected to represent the West Indies Blind Cricket Team in the World Cricket Council for the Blind (WCCB) T20 World Cup which is slated for November 2016 in India.
Executive Member of GuyBCA, Cecil Morris, thanked GCB for its continuous support, positing that the donation would help immensely in their preparation and the players are extremely grateful for the contribution. He stated that he is looking forward for a good performance from his team, noting that it would be an honour for some of the players to represent the West Indies Blind Cricket Team at the WCCB World T20 Cup.
The Regional Tournament is scheduled for the 8th July to 16th July, 2016 where Guyana would play Barbados, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, and a combine team from the Islands. After which, the top two teams will contest the final.
