As the GCB Female Under-19 tournament concluded on Sunday 18th February, 2018, we saw an interesting final match between GCB’s President XI and Demerara.
GCB’s President XI won the toss and decided to have a bat but was only able to compile a total of 38 runs from their allotted 20 overs as no one was able to attain double figure scores. Sheneta Grimmond top scored with 9 runs and Shakeba Gajnabi scored 3. Bowling for Demerara, Lovern Welcome and Mandy Mangru picked up 2 for 3 and 4 runs respectively, while Yogeeta Balkishun and Cherry Ann Fraser also collect a wicket each.
Demerara went in to bat but fell short of attaining their target by 1 run as the team was all out for 37 runs. Balkishun top scored with 11 and Mangru supported with 9 runs. The GCB President XI did an excellent job at restraining the Demerara team from attaining their mega total as the batting order fell cheaply with six ducks total. Kassica Munroe performed brilliantly, collecting four wickets for 11 runs while she gained support from La Fona Gilgeous and Sheneta Grimmond who collected 2 wickets for 10 and 3 runs separately.
GCB’s President XI won the match by 1 run but Demerara won the tournament on a NRR (net run rate) basis at the end of the tournament.
