2018 GCB Under-17 Inter-county tournament- wins for Berbice and Demerara in first round

On the opening day of the 2018 Guyana Cricket Board’s Under-17 Inter County tournament, Berbice defeated the National Select Under-15 Team by 115 runs, while Demerara beat Essequibo by 65 runs.

Over at the GCC ground, Bourda, Berbice Under-17 won the toss and elected to bat, posting a mammoth 267 for 9 from their allotted 50 overs. Seon Glasgow batted brilliantly, stroking 110, which included 5 sixes and 9 fours. Nigel Deodat scored a patient half century, which included just two fours, while opener, Fawaz Gafoor made an aggressive 35 before being bowled by Jonathan Rampersaud for 35. Bowling for National Select Under-15, Isai Throne was the most destructive, grabbing 3 for 30 while Jonathon Rampersaud and Zachary Jodah took 2 for 50 and 2 for 36 respectively. Chandrapaul Ramraj also picked up one wicket.

In reply, the National Select Under-15 reached 152 all out off 49 of their allotted 50 overs. Mavendra Dindyal topped scored with 32 off 71 balls. Revoldo Phillips supported well with 29. Bowling for Berbice, Saif Amoi grabbed 3 for 30, while Jevon Schultz and Nigel Deodat took 2 for 36 and 2 for 21 respectively.

Berbice won by 115 runs.

Over at the Lusignan ground, Demerara won the toss against Essequibo and elected to bat, posting 143 for 9 off their allotted 50 overs. Andre Seepersaud top scored with 42, Yeudisteer Persaud 29 and Nyron Bissu 17. Bowling for Essequibo, Sylvian Williams and Sheldon Charles picked up 3 wickets for 19 and 21 runs respectively. They gained valuable support from Badesh Parsotam who picked up 2 for 7 and Azim Mohamed who chipped in with 1 wicket for 26 runs.
In reply, Essequibo was bundled out for 78 in 31 overs, with only three batsmen reaching double figures, namely Lance Roberts 13, Slyvan Williams 12, Ameer Singh 11. Bowling for Demerara returned superb figures of 3 for 6 from 5 overs, Ameer Singh 3 for 27 from 10 over, Dwain Dick took 2 for 8, while Trevon Charles was the other wicket taker.

Demerara won by 65 runs.

On Friday 9 March, 2018, Berbice will oppose Demerara at the GCC ground, Bourda, while National Select Under-15 will compete with Essequibo at the Lusignan Community Centre ground matches start from 09 30 hours.
