Demerara emerged champions of the 2018 GCB/Under 17 Inter-County Tournament, when they defeated the National Select Under -15 in the third and final round of the competition. This victory gave Demerara a clean sweep of the tournament, having previously defeated Essequibo and Berbice.
At GCC, Bourda, the National Select Under-15 won the toss and decided to bat first posting a paltry 114 all out in 46.5 overs, a mega total which Demerara comfortably overhauled with 9 wickets to spare. Safie Shazad, Mavendra Dindyal and Ajay Gainda were the only three players to reach double figures scoring 20, 17 and 14 respectively. Bowling for Demerara, Nyron Bissu swiped up 3 for 9 to gain his third Man of The Match award, in as many matches. He was well supported by Andre Seepersaud and Andrew Samaroo picked up 2 wickets each.
Demerara then set out to surpass the Nation Select Under-15 total, and to lift this year’s GCB Under-17 Inter county title, with Sachin Singh stroking an elegant 56. Yeudisteer Persaud and Navindar Persaud contributed with 14 and 27 respectively. The only wicket taker for the National Select Under-15 was Romel Datterdeen with 1 for 15.
Demerara won by 9 wickets.
At Everest, Berbice batted first, and scored a magnificent 227 for 6 off their allotted 50 overs, with Seon Glasgow top scoring with 59, which included five fours and one six off the innings. Support was also gained from Nigel Deodat and Jevon Shultz, who also reached half centuries scoring 54 and 58 respectively. In the Essequibo bowling line up, Sylvan Williams took 2 for 42 and Lance Roberts 2 for 31.
In Reply, Essequibo failed to reach the target as they scraped to 102 all out in 45 overs. Sheldon Charles top scored with 43 while the only other batsmen to reach double figures were Badesh Parsotam and Lallchand Seeram with 10 runs each. Bowling for Berbice, Jevon Schultz grabbed 3 for 13 while Abdul Ramsammy and Nigel Deodatt claimed 2 wickets a piece. Jevon Schultz was awarded Man of the match for his 54 not out and 3 wickets.
Berbice won by 125 runs.
Man of the match was awarded to Nyron Bissu for his 3 wickets for 9 runs while Most Valuable Player was given to Seon Glasgow for his 190 runs aggregate scoring 110 against Select Under-15, 59 against Essequibo and 21 against Demerara.
