2018 GCB UNDER-17 INTER-COUNTY TOURNAMENT – wins for Demerara and Essequibo in round 2

Demerara and Essequibo emerge winners as the GCB/Under 17 Inter- County Tournament continued on Friday 9 March, 2018 with matches at the GCC ground Bourda and Lusignan Community Center ground.

Over at the GCC ground, Demerara won the toss and decided to bat posting a massive 160 all out in their 50 overs. Captain, Opener, Sachin Singh stroked 23 in 45 balls before he was sent back to the pavilion by Nigel Deodat. Navindra Persaud also contributed with 20, while middle order batsman, Andre Seepersaud top scored with 32 off 69 balls. Bowling for Berbice, Nigel Deodat sweeped up 4 wickets for 33, and gained valuable support from Gourav Ramesh and Marvin Prashad who took 2 wickets for 35 and 26 runs separately.

In reply, Berbice failed to reach their target as they fell cheaply for 84 runs off 33.5 overs. The only batsman to offer resistance was Seon Glasgow who top scored with a quick 21 runs using 24 balls. Nyron Bissu bowled exceptionally well for Demerara sweeping up 4 wickets for 11 runs which gained him the honors of the Man of the Match title; Hrititik Singh successfully picked up 3 wickets for 27 while Dwayne Dick, Sachin Singh and Wayne Bollers collected a wicket a piece.

Demerara won by 76 runs.

Over at Lusignan, Essequibo won the toss and decided to have a bat scoring 138 for 8 in their allotted 50 overs. The main contributors were Ameer Singh and Saeed Hakh who each made 41. Bowling for National Select Under-15, Jeremey Sandia grabbed 4 wickets for 16 runs, while Jonathan Rampersaud took 2 wickets for 25 runs; Thaddeus Lovell and Romel Datterdeen chipped in with a wicket each.

The National Select Under-15 squad failed to surpass the Essequibo total as they were only able to put up 120 all out in 49.4 overs. Jonathan Rampersaud top scored with 26, Nicholas Rajpat 16, Moahendra Gopilall 14 and Romel Datterdeen scored 12. Essequibo did an exceptional job defending their runs after Badesh Parsotam picked up a brilliant 4 wickets for 11 runs and gained great assistance from team members Manoj Basrath who picked up 3 for 15 while Sylvan Williams, Saeed Hakh and Captain, Lance Roberts collected a wicket each. Parsotam collected the man of the match trophy for his superb 4 for 11.

Essequibo won by 18 runs.

With round two completed, the third and final round is slated for Sunday 11th March, 2018 from 09 30 hours, and will witness the National Select Under-15 taking on Demerara at GCC while Berbice goes up against Essequibo at Everest grounds.
